Command Sergeant Major Brian Edwards was born in Tehachapi, California and has served over 30 years on active duty. He entered the Army on 14 June 1983 as an Infantryman. After Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, he attended Airborne School and reported to Fort Bragg to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course.

  Command Sergeant Major Edwards completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in July 1984 and was assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), where he served as the Junior Communications Sergeant for Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) 714. In 1987, he attended the United States Army Defense Language Institute. Upon reassignment to the 7th SFG (A) in January 1988, he served as the Junior Communications Sergeant with ODA 781 in Panama. In September of 1989, he served as the Senior Communications Sergeant with ODA 734 and 735 and in September of 1992, he served as the 1st Battalion C&E NCOIC. In 1993, he was assigned as a Small Group Leader and Senior Small Group Leader with the Special Warfare Center Noncommissioned Officer Academy. From October 1996 to February 2000, he served as the Team Sergeant of ODA 754. In 2000, he was assigned to the Special Warfare Center Noncommissioned Officer Academy and served as the First Sergeant and the Deputy Commandant. In February of 2003, he was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd SFG (A) and served as the Team Sergeant of ODA 332 and as the Company Operations Sergeant. In August of 2004, he attended the Sergeants Major Academy and upon completion returned to 7th SFG (A) and served as the 2d Battalion Operations Sergeant Major until February 2006 when he served as the Company Sergeant Major of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 7th SFG (A).

 Command Sergeant Major Edwards served as the Command Sergeant Major of 3rd Battalion, 10th SFG (A) and as the Command Sergeant Major of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Arabian Peninsula from April 2008 to February 2010. Command Sergeant Major Edwards also served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) from March 2010 to June 2011 and 7th SFG (A) from June 2011 to January 2013.  He currently serves as the Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Special Forces Command.

Command Sergeant Major Edwards’ military education includes the Special Forces Qualification Course, all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, Ranger School, Basic and Advanced Airborne Courses, Military Freefall Parachutist and Jumpmaster Courses, Special Forces Operations and Intelligence Sergeant Course and the Special Operations Target Interdiction Course.
